What we are looking for
Educartis is looking for a hands-on CTO to join the team. As a core member of a small team, you will lead our technical efforts as well as be an important contributor to the strategy of the company going forward. Your role will be to set the technology vision and direction of the company, and build and manage the team and platform to deliver it. You will work directly with the CEO/Co-founder.
We have a first version of the product in-market, paying customers, and partnerships in place. We now want to take our product to the next level. You will need to possess a deep technical understanding and feel comfortable as a developer in all areas of the business including, but not limited to frontend, backend, DevOps, and eCommerce. Experience in marketplaces and big data is a plus. You should be able to create a product pipeline supported by KPIs meaningful for the business and work through it in a data driven manner. You should be able to combine data from various sources (database, Google Analytics, CSV, etc.) to design reports that would help making product decisions.
Build out the technology roadmap for 2+ years for Educartis.com and all regional platforms within the portfolio
Work with management to develop new features
Select software platform architecture for scalable growth
Write high-quality front-end and backend production code
Develop great user experiences
Think strategically about product opportunities leveraging data and insights
Hire and manage a technology team (local and distributed)
Communicate product progress to Educartis stakeholders
5+ years of experience in developing web products using Ruby on Rails.
Experience with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Redis, ideally Nginx.
Experience with DNS management and Cloudflare
Experience using Amazon Web Services, Git and Heroku
Strong front-end skills, good knowledge of CSS, SCSS, JS, webpack, etc.
Competence with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
Experienced in writing and conducting QA tests
Able to use Sketch/Photoshop or other to review designs
Curious at heart and interested in making an impact across Africa
Fluent in English
Degree in Computer Engineering
Team management experience
Experience with payments and AI
Mobile first view on all aspects of the product
Experience with online marketplaces
Fluency in French a bonus
Previous CTO experience
