On the 9th-10th June 2018 , multi-disciplinary teams competed to develop innovative health solutions to tackle health challenges across East Africa.
22 teams participated to develop solutions across the five thematic areas:Universal Health Coverage; Mapping Solutions; Nutrition solutions; maternal health and newborn solutions and warning systems. The judges for the event were Simon Ndoria, Selam Emiru and Frank Tamre.
The winning team developed an AI-Stick to help visually impaired people use for smart navigation. The Runners up were Chanjo plus- a system providing mothers with information on access to vaccines, Iris innovations- an AI chatbot promoting mental health in the workplace, Nutritribe- a conversational platform for nutritionists/dieticians and users to engage on good nutritions and Nutritech- a messaging system creating awareness on non-communicable diseases affecting the population and by region.
The winning team was awarded 100,000KES (tax inclusive) and will be incubated at iHub and allocated coaches to help them improve their product, business model and financial model. One of the runners up- Iris innovations has also been pre-selected to apply for the 2018 Amref Innovate for Life incubation program that starts soon.
