5 Startups Selected for iHub Fellowship Acceleration Program to Join Traction Camp Program

5 startups have been selected to participate in the iHub Fellowship (iFellowship) Acceleration program.

The iFellowship program gives selected entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop their ideas and grow their businesses through a tailor-made program that will develop their business acumen and entrepreneurial and technical skills.

We opened the call for applications for the iFellowship program in December last year. The program attracted a lot of applications with more than 180 entrepreneurs and innovators applying to join the program as Incubation fellows or acceleration fellows.

Incubation fellows are entrepreneurs or innovators who have a well validated idea or have already built a minimum viable product while Acceleration fellows are entrepreneurs who are running a high growth digital startup and are looking to grow and scale their businesses.

Out of the 180 applications received, 30 entrepreneurs applied to join the Acceleration fellowship program. Below is a summary of all the entrepreneurs who applied for the program.

After a thorough and competitive selection process, 5 startup have been selected for the iHub Fellowship Acceleration program. Since the startups have shown a lot of potential to grow and scale their businesses and they meet all the requirements for Traction Camp, the 5 startups have been fast tracked to join Traction Camp, iHub’s accelerator program in partnership with the World Bank.

The startups will join the 27 startups from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and Ethiopia in the second cohort of the program that kicked off in April. They will receive mentoring from global and local experts, learn through a tailor-made curriculum, increase their regional visibility, and get access to potential partners and investors.

The startups that have been selected to join the program are;

Majik Water - creates a new source of affordable, clean drinking water for water scarce communities. They are harvesting clean drinking water from air in arid and semi arid areas in Kenya.

FarmIT - a mobile based platform that provides small scale horticultural farmers with agronomic information via SMS in real time depending on the crop life stage to help farmers produce quality and quantity horticultural crops and after the harvest, link them directly to large scale consumers to ensure they get good returns with an aim of improving their profits.

M-Shule -  a mobile learning platform in Africa that provides personalized educational tools to primary school students  through SMS. The platform uses artificial intelligence to deliver personalized SMS learning support in Math and English, building students’ concept mastery, exam performance and confidence.
