Apply for IKEA Startup Bootcamp

IKEA together with Rainmaking has launched the first program for startups: IKEA Bootcamp. They are looking for entrepreneurs all around the world to apply to the program and solve three big challenges: being truly affordable, being accessible and enabling a positive impact on the planet and society.

The partnership will choose 10 startups and receive a grant of 20,000 EUR to develop their product as well as free housing to Sweden during the program. Startups will work out of a new coworking space in the heart of the IKEA Range & Supply Democratic Design Center in Almhult, alongside the IKEA and Rainmaking team.

The program is part of IKEA Range & Supply and will run from September 18 to December 8 of 2017. The best part, IKEA will not be taking equity.

Startups will gain access to their prototype shop, test labs, and gain knowledge from the IKEA Range and Supply filled with innovation engineers, creative leaders, chain supply experts and global network of mentors and experts.

Apply to the GenH Challenge with your everyday idea to change the trajectory of health

The best ideas for the future of health can come from anyone, anywhere in the world. Pioneered by Johnson & Johnson, the GenH Challenge is a social innovation prize competition uniquely incentivizing global entrepreneurs, innovators, and people on the front lines of health to join forces and tackle some of the world’s toughest health challenges.

The GenH Challenge is founded on the belief that everyday ideas can transform the trajectory of health for humanity. The competition provides up to $250,000 in funding, plus other incentives, to support and champion the pioneers of ingenuity who will help the world achieve its healthiest generation - "GenH."

Apply for Slush Global Impact Accelerator 2017 Local Event

Slush Global Impact Accelerator Local Competition is back! We will be hosting Slush Global Impact Accelerator 2017 local competition in August to select startups that will represent Kenya at Slush in November – December at Helsinki in Finland.

Kenyan startups are invited to apply to pitch at the Slush GIA local Event on 3rd August 2017. 10 startups will be shortlisted to pitch at the event. 3 finalists will be selected and stand a chance to attend this year’s Slush conference and global impact accelerator.

How to Apply? Interested startups are required to fill in a short application form for the local competition at the iHub. The selected applicants will attend the local competition on 3rd August from 4 pm, where they will pitch their business in front of a local panel of judges. The judges will shortlist 2-4 candidates, who will then fill in a more in-depth application form. The shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Selection Committee for an interview. The final decision of the selection will be made by the Selection Committee based on the application form and interview.

Apply for the Challenge Cup 2017 Global Startup Competition

iHub and 1776  will be hosting the global Challenge Cup competition that seeks to find innovative startups solving the world’s most complex challenges. The Challenge Cup is also presented in partnership with investment firm Revolution, an active champion for the emergence of entrepreneurial communities and start-ups outside of Silicon Valley

“The Challenge Cup is more than a pitch competition. We are forging partnerships between government officials, institutions, and entrepreneurs tackling complex challenges,” said Evan Burfield, Cofounder, and CEO of 1776. “By partnering with Revolution we are reinforcing the networks necessary for startups to solve meaningful problems on a global stage. By hosting the competition on 1776’s UNION network, we are uniting the fragmented global startup ecosystem in this mission.”

Funding Opportunities

Do you have a bold idea for improving reproductive, maternal, newborn and/or child health?

Grand Challenges Canada, funded by the Government of Canada, has launched a new open funding opportunity open to applicants in low- and middle-income countries and Canada: Stars in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH).

Stars in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health seeks bold ideas for products, services and implementation models that could transform how persistent challenges in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health are addressed in low- and middle-income countries. Successful proposals will be awarded seed grants of up to $100,000 CAD over a maximum of 12 to 18 months.

Of particular interest to Grand Challenges Canada are innovations to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health in humanitarian contexts, notably among internally displaced and refugee populations, as well as innovations that improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls, so that they are empowered and have greater influence over their lives and futures.

Apply for the 2017 FIRE Africa Innovation Grants and Awards

AFRINIC is announcing the call for applications for the 2017 FIRE Africa Innovation Grants and Awards.

This year, the available types of Grants and Awards are:

  • The FIRE Africa Grants which provides two Grants of USD12,500 and USD10,000 Google Grant respectively.
  • The FIRE Africa Awards which provides three Awards of USD3,000. The FIRE Award consists of a USD 3,000 cash prize plus full travel and accommodation for one representative of each project to attend the awards ceremony and participate in sessions which will be held in Switzerland during the 2017 Internet Governance Forum.

The application deadline for the 2017 Awards and Grants is 31st July 2017, 23:59 UTC.
