Traction Camp, a regional acceleration program aimed at nurturing startups in East Africa so as to create globally competitive, growth-oriented, mobile and digital technology businesses is currently seeking applications for its first cohort. The program is backed by the World Bank Group’s infoDev program and the governments of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Kenya.
The objectives of the program is to support rapid refinement of business models towards scalability and expansion. Other objectives include;
- Facilitate human capital development among core startup team members
- Increasing investment readiness of entrepreneurs.
- Enable startups to design effective monetization and customer acquisition strategies
The call for application has been opened and will stay open until January 25th 2017.
The program will consists of two weeks of intensive training followed by up to six months of personalized coaching, tailored to each entrepreneur’s needs.
The 6 month program will support Growth-oriented startups in scaling their business through a tailor made acceleration process designed to take growth oriented enterprises and startups through a rapid-cycle competitive curriculum, and matches them quickly to appropriate capital and business mentor. The program will connect entrepreneurs with the knowledge, capital and markets they need to grow their enterprises.
Participating companies will receive technical assistance to improve their marketability to early-stage financiers. The curriculum will cover key topics, such as investment readiness and investor engagement, along with negotiations, regulatory environments, and internationalization.
Other project activities will include facilitating several access to finance (A2F) workshops to provide familiarity with financial concepts and expectations of angel investors to a broader audience.
The program promises to provide entrepreneurial skills, business acumen, access to networks, and good knowledge of financing mechanisms.

The program is also looking for mentors, coaches and an experienced consultancy firm on a long term consultancy basis based in Kenya to mentor and coach growth-oriented digital entrepreneurs in the East African Region with the objective of enabling the entrepreneurs secure financial resources from the investors.
