iHub, Oracle Hackathon: Innovating for Climate Change

hackathon-bannerThe iHub in conjunction with Oracle Kenya and Kenya Climate Innovation Center is scheduled to undertake a climate change solutions hackathon scheduled to take place on 2nd - 3rd December.

During the hackathon experience, participants will be required to develop an application that utilises the Oracle Application Container Service and focusses on climate change on the aspects of renewable energy and energy efficiency, agri-business, water, waste management and issues related to the environment.

Application Container Service is a scalable cloud platform implemented using Oracle Linux docker container that you can use to easily and quickly deploy polyglot applications like Java SE, PHP or Node JS. This service can be easily integrated with the Oracle Database Cloud Service to allow applications to seamlessly communicate with the Oracle Database Cloud Service.

The participants are required to work in teams (not less than 3 and not more than 5) to compete.

After registration, you will be required to attend a webinar that will give an overview of the above Oracle services a few days before the hackathon date.

Award: The top 3 best teams will receive cash prizes of :

  • Winner: Ksh. 100,000/- (Tax inclusive)
  • 1st Runner up: Ksh. 75,000/- ( Tax inclusive)
  • 2nd Runner up: Ksh. 50,000/- ( Tax inclusive)

Besides the prize money, the best solutions after the hackathon can be either incubated or explored further depending on the viability of the solution.

The deadline for registration and payment is 28th of November, 2016.

NOTE: Participants should bring their own laptops.
