Job Description

Nairobi Garage is looking for a Communications Lead who will handle all online and offline media communications for the company. As the Nairobi Garage is tech and online-focused, there will be a greater amount of online-communication, including social media and blog writing. However, the ideal candidate will also have the ability to utilise and maintain effective relationships with traditional off-line media. In addition, attend events and networking functions.

Key characteristics, the ideal candidate must have:

- Proactive, with a lot of initiative

- Ability to think, strategise and execute with minimal supervision

- Proven interest in the tech and start-up scene

- Excellent writing skills, particularly at creating content (ideally someone with a their own blog)

- Excellent computer skills

- Experience in the media/PR/online branding sectors

- Someone fun, who is sociable and who enjoys their work

Key task areas

- Developing and implementing a social media strategy for the company

- Creating and updating social media and blog content

- Improving SEO for the company website

- Handling all event promotions

- Building and maintaining regular communication with media and industry players

Candidates called for interview will be expected to research about the company, its current online presence and brand, and then come up with a sample communication strategy, which the candidate would implement if chosen for the role. The strategy should be approximately 1-3 pages long and the candidate will need to answer questions on their choices for the strategy. The best candidates will be able to give examples of previous experience implementing similar strategies, during the interview.

Salary range: Ksh 40,000 – 70,000 (this can increase quickly depending on effectiveness in the role).
