Mobile phones are everywhere. There are now 6 billion active mobile phone connections across the world, an increasing number of which are in emerging markets. The accessibility of mobile, and particularly the power of SMS as an information management medium, offers unprecedented potential for connecting communities who have previously been hard to reach. This is now having a positive impact on lives across the world. FrontlineSMSlowers barriers to social change using mobile technologies. Our open-source SMS-messaging software helps organizations all over the world overcome communications barriers. It enables users to send, receive and manage SMS over a mobile network. Users only pay the standard text messaging charges through their regular mobile provider. Two years in the making,FrontlineSMS Version 2is a redesign of our software built upon extensive input and feedback from those using the software across the world. The redesign makes the software more intuitive, simpler to extend and run over networks, and makes it easier to manage larger volumes of messages. Browser-based and built to run on Windows, Mac and Linux, the software still does not need the Internet to work, sending text messages via a phone, modem or an online SMS aggregator. The new architecture will both strengthen the foundation of the software and create a more flexible system that allows developers and users to customize FrontlineSMS to more effectively meet their needs, and easily integrate with other programs. The improved usability of FrontlineSMS Version 2 will enable those using our software to increase their communications capacity and strengthen the positive impact of their work. Join our global launch events - in Nairobi, Washington, D.C. (12th June) and London (18th June)- to see demonstrations of the software from the FrontlineSMS staff, meet our partners, users and donors, and hear more about the how FrontlineSMS can be used.
