On the 17th of July 2013 iHub Consulting
in partnership with the African Management Initiative
(AMI) held its first business management training targeting entrepreneurs.
AMI is a pan-African organisation that offers high-quality, affordable, practical and locally relevant management education to managers and entrepreneurs across Africa - both online and offline. AMI courses cover issues that are essential for entrepreneurs and managers at small businesses - topics like Managing Money, Managing People and Managing Myself. They are developed specifically for Africa, in partnership with the continent's leading business schools - including Kenya's Strathmore Business School.
AMI and iHub will be offering Learning Lab workshops on October 29th to iHub’s community of technologists, entrepreneurs and SMEs. The sessions will be held at iHub on Ngong Road, and led by a team of AMI facilitators and iHub administrative support. The first course is called ‘[email protected] in 21st Century Africa
’, and focuses on four areas: goal setting; self-management; communication
and influencing others
. Participants are encouraged to immediately apply what they learn to their job or business. They complete practical assignments and team up with 'buddies' for support and feedback. Participants who complete the online quizzes and offline assignments receive a personalised AMI Certificate of Completion.

Feedback from an pilot AMI/iHub session in August was extremely positive. Cheruto, who manages a team of seven staff at online retailer MamaMikes noted she had learnt more about herself and influencing styles from the session:
“I liked the lab-based format because of the interaction, better application to Kenyan/African context and learning with partners,” she said.
Tim who owns his company, Vanadium Consulting and Logistics, and previously worked in the travel industry agreed:
“Excellent session, eye opening and very interesting mix of participants,” he said
A facilitated session will be held on Tuesday 29th October 2013 at the iHub from 9.00am to 4.30pm. There will be a subsidized fee of sh. 4,250 per person (payable on the material day) covering training, snacks and lunch. You will need to bring a laptop and set of earphones with you.
