Mojang, the makers of the internationally acclaimed game Minecraft, and UN-Habitat, the UN Human Settlements Programme, have teamed up to develop a gaming tool that aims to involve young people in the planning process in urban areas. ‘Block by Block’ is based on Minecraft and gives citizens an opportunity to show planners and decision makers how they would like to see their cities in the future. The first pilot project in Kibera is already in the planning phase. We are pleased to invite you to a free launch event on November 7th 2012 from 6-8 pm at the iHub. At the event you will hear from the makers of the game, learn more about the real life projects that it will be used for from UN-Habitat and see an interactive demonstration of the Block by Block building and planning process. There will also be an opportunity to try out the game itself. Register here to attend the event.
